Boston Red Socks Promoting Awareness for DVT Prevention
Sigvaris, a major brand of compression socks and compression stockings, is teaming up with the North American Thrombosis Forum and Terry Francona, the team manager of the Boston Red Socks and a blood clot survivor. They are hoping to raise awareness about blood clots and Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT. Blood clots lead to more deaths per year than AIDs, car accidents, and breast cancer combined. Sigvaris will be making “red socks” for those attending the North American Thrombosis Forum’s Celebration of Gratitude which will pay homage to Terry Francona.
Although our readers will not get to wear these clever little compression socks, you can still do your part and make others aware of the dangers of DVT. Some preventative measures include walking around every few hours after sitting, drinking lots of water, wearing loose-fitting clothes, and exercising regularly.
